Dirty Water is released by the Standells.
1966
The song was written by the band’s manager/producer, Ed Cobb, a Texan, who had recently visited Boston and was reputedly mugged walking along the Charles River. It reaches No. 8 on the Billboard pop music charts on July 16, 1966, and subsequently becomes Boston’s unofficial rock n’ roll anthem. Beginning in the early 1990s, the song is played at Fenway Park after every Red Sox win.
